when people talk about Kobe and Carmelo, they talk about how selfish they are, and how they jack up shots, but when people talk about Gilbert Arenas, Dirk Nowinski, and Vince Carter, people say they "help their teams be scoring" What Gives?

Writers personally dont like Kobe because of the rape case and the Shaq trade to the heat. (shaq wanted to get traded) But Kobe has been trying to clean his image but they always find something wrong with him. Because more people like to read about negative and the easy pinpoint is Kobe. When he scored 81 most people were sayin of course you can score 81 if you shoot 40 shots.
With Melo he was lazy his first few years and writers have not forgotten that. So the fight basically solidified everything they believed. Now they overexagerate evrything he does. they blame Melo instead of AI because of the Nuggets troubles. Not the fact that George Karl teams have never played Defense.
Carter is the most overated player in the league, and Arenas blows his own name more than Chad Johnson.

1. I don't hate Melo I like him.
2. I hate Kobe because he is a cheap player and he's in his own world.
3. I hate Vince Carter he doesn't help his team he is a ball hog and his team sucks anyway.
4. I like Arenas and Nowitzki, Nowitzki passes and isn't selfish thats why his team had a 22 game win streak. Arenas is the only good one on his team and amazingly he still isn't a ball hog what are you talking about?

the main reason for viewing these players (nowitzki, carter, arenas) in a more positive light is because they play for winning teams. The nets aren't winning right now with carter, but they've been somewhat successful with him in the east for the past year and injuries have really hurt their chances. It's easier to see a good player taking most of his team's shots (a common complaint of Iverson when he played for Philadelphia) as having a negative impact when his team loses. Kobe doesn't deserve this kind of blame, but Carmelo might. His defense is a liability, and he hasn't been able to keep himself on the court enough this season to help his team win.

Also, both players have had embarrassing incidents on the court recently. Carmelo's sucker punch that got him a 15-game suspension and Kobe's hits on Marko Jaric and Manu Ginobli (worth 1 game suspensions, each) have both led to negative views of these players, though not specifically to being selfish with the ball.

I don't know much about Carmelo but I used to hate Kobe too until I saw a sit down interview with him.He is a well spoken class act.I was wrong about him.As far as Arenas,he is obnoxious!!! Nowitski I think is also a class act and I think Vince Carter just gets a bad rap because he left Toronto on not so good terms.

I like Kobe and Melo as players. They both help there teams win and as a ball fan, that is all you can ask for. Part of the resons people challenge their playing styles is because of them as people not players. Although people are stupid and should admit that they both help their respective teams tremendously, i would understand if they don't like Kobe and Melo as people.

KOBE

A. Everyone likes shaq and kobe picks arguements with him.
B. Kobe can manipulate Phil Jackson from hating him and loving shaq to hating shaq and loving kobe.
C. There is probably an 80% chance the Kobe is a rapist

MELO

A. Melo has been found with possesion drugs of and nobody likes druggies
B. Melo carrys on fights with the Knicks and can't fight himself so decides to throw a cheap punch to protect his "brother" when the fight is alrady over.

in my eyes they recieve hate for reasons other than theire jacking up shots 24/7. Kobe has seems to have an innate ability to flail his elbow towards the face of any opponents who give him a hard time (marko jaric, manu ginobili?) and melo's involvement in the brawl at the garden and following 15 game suspension wasnt exactly a good way for him to try and recieve the "nice guy" lable.

It's not "hate", it's criticism. People criticize Kobe b/c he's one of the best and knows it (he's arrogant but backs it up). Melo's case is different- as LeBron & D-Wade have become the best young players, Melo has shown his jealousy both in interviews when asked about them and in his game as he has become a blatant ball-hog in a sad attempt to "match" them.

its only cuz kobe "raped a gurl" and carmelo was in that DEN and NY fite which r both kinda recent. arenas, nowitzki, and carter have all avoided problems that will hurt their image. but im pretty sure that if lets say arenas got arrested for having a gun he would b getting hated on just like kobe and carmelo.

KOBE is a headache and Melo is a fantastic player but this year had a possibility of being benched.
