I don't get it at all.
On comic relief the other night I was saying (before they revealed it was a gag) that I couldn't take him seriously making pleas like that (and I also spotted the blue screen work). Then they revealed it as a sketch and it just confirmed why I can never take him seriously.
Every charity thing he's done he ends up just plugging his DVDs and I don't find it funny. At Live8 all he did was do his stupid Office dance, and before then he kept mentioning his stupid shows.
Having said that I did laugh when they showed Andi Peters sitting on the floor grinning like an idiot.
Sometimes he might say something funny (although he has been known to nick gags) but to get the praise he gets is totally unjustified. He ruined the Simpsons, his episode was probably the worst episode I've ever seen, it wasn't funny at all.

He has one of the most slappable faces in the public eye at the moment. He needs to be taken down a peg or two.

I remember Ricky Gervais when he was just a 5 min slot on the 11 o'clock show. He wasn't funny then either. He just effed & blinded his way through (don't know whether he wrote his own stuff) So glad to hear it's not just me then.
I never, ever got The Office (tho I've been in plenty where the real people are definitely more amusing) & Extras is not exactly hilarious, just full of faces jumping on the bandwagon whether they need to or not. Sorry, still don't get it.
Success, money, contacts, power...which order does it work in?

I agree with you. They make a contrived soap and suddenly they are the best comedian since ever. He's not very funny at all and I can't understand the hysteria over him. I remember an actor called Brenda Fricky, she came from nowhere, was in a film and got an award then disappeared for good.
It's like soap stars, they get noticed and suddenly think they are bigger than the show. They leave and are never heard of again.
