Why do some games only get release on games consoles and not on pc ? Shurley wouldn't it make sense to release more games on pc as well to make more money ?

In response to JAMES M:

Some games are made for many different games consoles. An example of this is Medal of honour vangaurd. It is being released for ps2 and wii. If they can have it compatiable with both of thoses then why can't they also make it pc compatable ?

Consoles get more games because they are mainly game machines. You will find the term 'first party' software, which in the cases of the Wii, 360 and PS3 are Nintendo Games and all studios by them, Microsoft and the studios under them and also Sony and the studios under them. They own alot of gaming companies and can churn out more games specifically for their consoles. Lets not forget that the Xbox360 and PS3 are not making money on the sales of their consoles, because they cost more to make than they charge, but they are reliant on the software sales, such as games. The Wii is different :p but the business model is the same.

Also Consoles are small, plug into the TV and use the same controller so in terms of ease you get what you need with a console. The majority of gamers are console players, so more games will be aimed at where the market is.

With the release of the Xbox360 Microsoft did a cheeky thing and they paid alot of studios to focus on Xbox360 titles.

Also when the xbox360 came out it was more powerful than a PC. Granted you could buy individual components that were better and overclock old pieces to get them better, but the one side of a PC that lets it down and makes developing games harder for the PC than on a console and that is compatibility. Due to the millions of different components people can choose from when building a PC or buying one, there are alot of compatibility problems. Most developers are able to solve this before release, but its still a problem and one of the reasons that Patching has become so popular.

On consoles the hardware is standard, so developing games are a bit easier.

However now that the PCs hardware has gone to Quadcore, allowing upto 6 GFX cards in one machine etc it is once again the most powerful gaming machine and we are seeing more and more titles being developed for it.

We have to accept that when consoles are released developers flock to them, they get subsidised by Console manufacturer get access to a huge market of gamers and dont even need to release anything original, so can cash in on the release momentum. Thats good business. But eventually they will return in their droves to the PC.

It costs about 8 million Dollars to make a Hi Definition Xbox360 game, this was deemed too expensive at the recent Game Developers Conference, but due to a thirsty market, developers can make their money back quickly. When the console war is over and there are more games on the market, some developers won't be able to afford to kep making HD games, which is good for us on the PC :p

In certain cases the console manufacturers get games manufactured specifically for their own machine to try to promote sales of their own hardware. In the early days the very popular Mario games were an example. Another problem is the actual coding of games for different consoles and the PC is totally different. Porting a particular game across to a different platform is not always going to be practical. I have seen games that were awesome on PC and awful on a console, obviously the same applies in reverse.

greater often than not because of the fact the console video games are greater standard than pc video games. some sport manufacturers launch a sport on one format. e.g. ps2, yet then if it become rather standard, then the corporate has to make greater of an identical sport for various consoles and pc. Its stupid i understand. im aggravated that very final delusion thirteen is barely out on ps3. besides, desire that solutions your question
