We must die else there is no room for next generations. Like machines, our body will wear and tear after years of using it. It will eventually wears out. We must pass the task to the younger generation to reproduce and sustain the race. If we live for too long, the world will overpopulate just like that. The death and birth rate must be in equilibrium with the resources available on earth.
In fact, not only should we practice birth control, we should also practice death control. We may want to put some limitation on how old you can be. Earth can only sustain so many human.

i think what Pascal's trying to say here is not that we are absolutly nothing, but in comparison to the universe, we are so miniscule, i think he is suggesting that he who is humbled by the vastness of the universe, is great. it is not a quote made to belittle our human race, but rather to put ourselves into perspective. to realize that in the great scheme of things, we are not as supreme as we might like to think. becuase we are all living on barrowed time, our fate is in the hands of mother nature and father time. we are great yes, but we must not let that go to our heads or we get cocky and begin to feel as though we are invincible, when in fact, we are anything but.

Pascal was a pessimist. We die because our lives are finite. We are great because we leave our footprint on our local landscapes. Each of our signatures are unique. And while the signatures are different, they are special to the people who know us.

Subatomic particles just cannot stay put and sit still. They always have to be on the move.
So, that's why living things cannot stay alive forever. Everything falls apart eventually, even gold and diamonds decay.

We die because Eve ate the damn apple and she convinced Adam to do so. So their creator (and ours) cursed them with death. Read the book of Genesis.

Thank goodness we die.
Think how awfully it would be to be stuck in these bodies for eternity.
Love and blessings Don
