SAP is (Systems, Applications And Products)....this is nothing but ERP software....(enterprise resource planning software).
There are different modules in SAP, like Technical, Functional.
But If u r engineer then go for Functional modules. Technical includes BASIS and ABAP language. Which is not having that much scope.
If u r from india then there are two Institutes in india who gives SAP certification. these are Genovet and Siemens. Please please don't go for any other institute other institutes are all fake institutes. Only these two 2 institutes are Partners of SAP. Ok my friend. But to get admission in these institute u must have 1 year experience in any industry. And fee is 2,50,000Rs and 25000 Rs for SAP Standard certification.
I am not joking this fee is true. Genovate is in mumbai and Siemens i think in hyderabad or banglore.
Ok my friend go for it have a nice carrer in SAP. Good Luck

SAP is basically a software (name of the company) to implement ERP, so before you begin to research about SAP you should fully understand what ERP is.
The article at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enterprise_resource_planning
might help
There are no such prerequisites to start a SAP course, you can start it at 10+2 level from any private insitute. But it's recommended that you gradute by the time you end your SAP course and start hunting for a job, as multinations today employ only graduates.
You may walk in any local SAP coaching institute and ask for details.

SAP is an ERP (enterprise resource management) system. Compnies use and SAP system, or that of its main competitor, Oracle, to drive their business systems - things like manufacturing work orders, sale order entry, financial reporting, purchase orders, and so on.
Like any other ERP system, SAP is basically a gigantic database. It requires people like system architects (to make sure one part of the system jives with all the other parts), database administrators (to make sure the data can be entered and extracted when needed), programmers to do any customizing the company may need, and so on. Depending on what you want to do with SAP, you may need a certification or you may need an M.S. degree in computer science.
I'd suggest you visit their web site and perhaps a local college or university to learn more about computer science classes that could be beneficial to you. Good luck!

SAP was founded in 1972 as Systemanalyse und Programmentwicklung by five former IBM engineers in Mannheim, Germany (Dietmar Hopp, Hasso Plattner, Klaus Tschira, Claus Wellenreuther and Hans-Werner Hector). The acronym was later changed to stand for Systeme, Anwendungen und Produkte in der Datenverarbeitung ("Systems, Applications And Products in Data Processing"), in 1976 was founded SAP GmbH, the next year its headquarters was moved to Walldorf and since the 2005 annual general meeting the company's official name is just SAP AG. Henning Kagermann became the sole CEO of SAP in 2003. [1]
