If you have a nice normal pregnancy, there is a new natural option called "waterbirth". This would be my choice if my pregnancy had no complications. I did a lot of reading about it, and it really sounds like the way to go.
The best part to me, was that it was less traumatic for the baby and the mom, making the actual birthing experience much more loving and happy, versus upsetting and stressful.

It is going to hurt, there is no lie about that, however, they have medication that can make the pain easier. Epidurals numb your body from the waist down and is commonly used in natural births. There are also others that take sharpness or edge off contractions.
You should talk with your OB/GYN and see what they recommend. Maybe it is just nerves. You should do what is best for you and your baby, even though C-Sections are common, they too propose their risks and they are greater than that of a natural birth. I am pretty sure your doctor will say that they recommend you have a natural birth because it proposes less risk and is probably better for you and your baby and the recovery period is much shorter than that of a c-section.
I personally think that a natural birth helps the bond between mother and child and the pain goes away as soon as you see your child. Even if you have a natural birth, you don't always have to be stuck in a bed. There are other methods and options like a water birth...you sit in a pool of warm water and birth your child. It helps your muscles relax and it is less stressful on you and the baby.
Talk to your doctor and tell them of your concerns they will have a preferred plan for you and let you know about your options regarding both.

Natural birth, as in, no meds, no drugs, no induction, no continuous monitering, etc?
If this is what you mean, I can tell you from experience, it is the most beautiful thing you will ever experience. Yes, I won't lie to you, it hurts, unlike anything you have ever experienced. But, the hurting has a reason. It is your cervix opening up to allow your baby to be born. When your body hurts like this, it releases all these different kinds of horomones that help with breastfeeding, feeling calm, content, and "motherly" after your baby is born.
Here is an excerpt from Wikpedia;
Proponents of natural childbirth note that anaesthetics may increase the likelihood of complications, because labor may be slowed or the woman may not be able to adequately move her body during labor or work with her body during final delivery.[1] All epidural medications given during labor cross the placenta and affect the fetus, and it has been shown that pain medication can affect the feeding behavior of the newborn [2] and reduce the chances of successful breastfeeding.
A natural birth also increases the probability of a healthier postnatal period and an easier recovery due to better hormonal balance and less post-operative discomforts. This is because a woman who has given birth with minimal intervention does not have to recover from major abdominal surgery (caesarean section), instrumental delivery (by forceps or ventouse), cutting of the vulva (called episiotomy), bruises from IV lines, or severe headache backache (a possible and well-documented side effect of epidurals). Natural childbirth maximizes the innate birth physiology and laboring movement of healthy, well-nourished women and minimizes interventions in the normal course of spontaneous childbirth.
Many women consider natural birth empowering. A woman who is supported to labor as she instinctively wants to is a woman who will likely feel positive about her birth experience and future parenting skills. [3] [4] [5] Her baby is more able to be alert and placed on her skin (promoting maternal bonding) and breastfeeding is more likely to be enjoyable and successful"
Now, that being said, you should still be prepared. Try learning Lamaze, the Bradley Method, Hypnobirthing, or "Calm Birth". Learning a technique will help you feel more empowered throughout the birthing process.
Remember, birth is not a medical procedure, it is a NATURAL process, and interference with that process is unnatural and potentially unhealthy.
Good luck, with whatever you decide!

If you would like a natural childbirth, learn the Bradley Method. It is all about healthy mom, baby and natural childbirth. It's a 12 week course and although it can cost alot more than lamaze class, it's very worth it if its right for you. I took Bradley classes for my baby, but unfortuntely there were complications but what I learned during those classes got me through most of the labor pain. There a couple books out there if you would like to read about the Bradley method but my favorite is "Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way" by Susan McCutcheon. Also visit www.bradleybirth.com for more info. From the classes and reading a few books on Bradley, I felt I went into labor fully prepared.

It hurts, but you forget it afterwards.
I am a complete whimp when it comes to pain, but gave birth using only gas and air to help with my contractions, and had nothing for the birth.
In all honesty, the toothache I had two weeks after birth was far worse than giving birth, and I told my dentist that I preferred the pain of having my baby to that toothache!
Go for natural! It's great, and the recovery is a breeze.
I know that it's a scary prospect, but your body will do everything you need to do to get that baby, all you have to do is go with it and not fight against any of the urges that you get.

I've heard having a child vaginally hurts less than a c-section. I had to have an emergency c-section and the delivery itself didnt hurt but my belly hurt for about 5 weeks afterward. The hospital actually sends you home with a prescription for painkillers and you HAVE to take them if you even want to be able to get up out of bed. And the day after having my baby I couldnt walk even with painkillers because it hurt too much. A vaginal delivery hurts more but you are back up on your feet within a couple days.

have it natural, dont worry about it to much.
try to keep yourself in shape from now until then, exercise as you should and eat healthy.
when the time comes breathe deeply and walk around the house as much as possible and rest sometimes, this will move things on for you.
im pregnant with my 6th,and i have them natural, its better then injections, which i heard causes back pain.i have mine and i breast feed straight away
i just once had a Epidurals ,which i wish i hadnt, they gave it to me,then i didnt have enough pain to push,i would never do that again.
may God be with you
good luck!
