Yep! What choice do we have but close the border, there are 50 million more of them coming, and our emergency rooms are all going broke as it is.

I doubt there would be riots unless Bush denied amnesty to illegals. Then all hell would break loose.

While not condoning those who are in our country illegally, I do think we need a guest worker program to allow cheap migrant labor to enter our country legally. It's arguable whether or not Bush's plan is amnesty, but it certainly does allow illegals to get in line ahead of folks who are obeying our immigration laws. And that just ain't right.

It's also ridiculous to not consider the issue of children who have lived all their lives in this country despite their parents being illegals. IF that is the only crime of the parents, I would be willing to let judges consider the merits of individual cases. No, not a blanket amnesty, but rather a sane system of review...and preferably not ruled over by pinko commie pacifist judges.

It's a rather complex situation...and I find that folks at both extremes of the political spectrum are incapable of dicussing it rationally.

If it happened just like that, there would be massive protests but probably not riots.
Of course it won't happen just like that.
For one thing, Bush is the head of the Executive, not the Legislative. He doesn't make the laws. Congress makes the laws.
Has anybody thought about the role of Mexico in the coming global conflict?
Of course we need to get control of our borders. But we also need to keep in mind that Mexico is not our enemy. The Mexican government has its flaws (systemic corruption), but it's actually better than some of our allies....
We are at fault for ignoring the porous border for so many decades, it's not all the fault of the illegal immigrants. If we wanted the Mexican workers (and we did), we should have adjusted our immigration policy to reflect reality, rather than just ignoring the law. That was kinda dumb.
