how can i alter the amount of times my phone rings before the answer machine kicks in (w850i)?

yes it is set by the carrier but if you call your providers customer service they should be able to extend your ringtime in the network. it is an option that is preset but can be extended all the way to about a mintue and a half. hope that helps

It depends on what carrier you are with, some (GSM usually) you are able to do it from your phone by just punching in some codes.

unfortunately that is set by the carrier, not the phone, there is nothing you can do to change it.
