Different things can be behind an enlarged uterus. Some just have a bigger uterus than others, just like, feet, ears, noses, etc... Mine is bulky, which means the walls are thick and hard to see through wit the ultrasound. It does not necessarily mean much of anything. Yes, having children, D/C, anything that would stretch the uterus can cause it to be bigger than normal, all enlarged means is bigger than normal.
An enlarged uterus may contain fibroids, but so can a small one. Mine is enlarged, tilted, has a dip in it and has several fibroids. But any of these things can be separate and nothing may have caused any of them since I was born with most and the fibroids developed with time.

Your uterus can be enlarged due to many things. If you have had babies, it becomes enlarged and may not shrink down until after menopause. Right after you have a baby, it stays enlarged awhile. You may also have what are called uterine fibroids. They are basicly like "knots" in the muscle of the uterine wall. Lots of women have them, most don't even know it. If they become large enough, they may cause abdomen pain/pressure/bloating, irregular periods.. etc...
