We are couple in our 50's and want somewhere quiet but not dead (and certainly not 18-30 style), with good beaches, good food etc. As a reference, Kamari (Santorini) or Troulos (Skiathos) are the kind of place we're looking for.

If you want a good resort try Rethymnon, there is enough to see and do so you dont get bored but not a load of nighlife bars and clubs and morons screaming till all hours of the day and night.

I have stayed in Rethymnon for 2 years now and am going back again this September and again next June.

I would not advise going much before May as a lot of places are not open before and you may come across the sand rain storm.

The Palladion hotel in Rethymnon is where we stay near enough to the town and right on the beach, avoid The Astrid.

I can also recommend Stalis, a bit biassed as i live there, but most of the tourists we get in the resort are middle aged and families, and so many of these people come back year after year. Don't let neighbouring Malia put you off, we never get trouble from there. If you decide to book Stalis, pop in to Finikas bar to say hello.

I would recommend Rethymnon. It is a town with 30,000 inhabitants, it is lively and there is a great sandy beach that extends for many kilometers to the east.
The old town of Rethymnon is lying in the heart of modern Rethymnon and it combines the Turkish with the Venetian architecture. Several Venetian mansions and public buildings are still preserved in an excellent condition.T
Every visitor to Rethymnon should not miss a stroll in the alleys of the old town, where the Venetian Loggia, the Rimondi fountain and the Nerantze Mosque are. Start your walk from the Venetian harbour with the turkish lighthouse and explore the narrow streets of the old town. If you feel tired or hungry, there are many little cafes and restaurants for a drink or lunch.
For those of you who like photography, the old town of Rethymnon and the Venetian harbour offer many chances for beautiful photos.

I would Recommend Palantis (BET THE SPELLINGS WRONG) this is a small place only a 5min Taxi fare from Rethymon the beach is fab and the people are very friendly.
Try going to Tripadvisor .com this gives reviews of resorts from all over the world from the punters not the agents.
Have a good one

I`m a Turkish 17 years old farmer of Thrace, Greece: I migrated to Heraklon (Greece) to find a best life, and a group of Greek polices call me to say this in a dark corner: "sir, let`s play Marmango, your "peo" inside our broken male "kolos" all the nights, we play Marmango in Malakias square of Heraklon, Greek guys love us, the young Turkish guys PS: Marmango is the Greek national gay-dance

Spilia Village Traditional Hotel...it's kind of "up there" but if you can afford it...IT IS BEAUTIFUL. It is like a giant mansion on a busy country street. Its not loud and not too quiet. Have Fun.
