How frivolous! but you've piqued my interest... so how about Heian era Japan, the height of the imperial court, culture flowering everywhere. Hell of a way to practice your Japanese, but you could learn so many things... meet samurai, peasants, courtiers, merchants and priests. Take part in poetry reading beneath blossoming trees, secret meetings with ladies of the court... hear koto and samisen music as it was first played... imagine the atmosphere.

I'd take a video camera, lots of film, and some beautiful jewelery and good sake for currency. All the literary figures I'd meet, I just wouldn't be worthy... or intelligible... but hey, that's time travel... it'd be good to meet Onna no Komachi though x. Or Ki no Tsurayuki, all those big poets... and hey, they might think I was a god, a white skinned man from the moon.... I'd probably make it into ancient Japanese literature... kudos!

I'm glad you asked this question. I often think about time travel. if it were possible I think that people alive today are the only ones who would survive the trip in either direction. If you went forward and saw all the new fangled gizmos, you'd breathe a sigh of relief and say something like..." well it's about time they had an automatic flea bath/carrot slicer, what I would have done for one of those in the 21st century..." And if you went back in time, you'd take a nice automatic sidearm and a bic lighter. You'd be a god. Take a George Foreman greaseless grill and you'd be hailed as a useful god. If I went off to sail the chronographic oceans, I would probably go somewhere they had good self hygiene practices, otherwise you'd need nose plugs to prevent nausea from the smell. And I'd go and see if Helen was worth all the fuss, and take a look see at Muhammed, and give him a few insightful tips, and maybe do a little art shopping, and invest in microsoft, apple, yahoo and google. And being a man I'd want to bed every great beauty since god was a sargeant.

What a great question

It must depend on what would be my social status if i could go back, and just as importantly what restrictions would there be. for example I wouldn't choose an era just so i could change the course of history, i.e killing Hitler as a child.

rather then live in a certain era, I would just love to take part in certain events, like doctor who can. Cesar's crossing of the Rubicon, the fall of Troy, god the list is endless, but I'd have to choose being part of Columbus's crew when he discovered the Americas, what an experience that would have been.

Ive given you a star for this question, as this is something I do think about. I would love to go back to the Edwardian days, but only if I was wealthy. I also fancy going back to the 1920s,
again having some money would help as I dont think poorer families had it so easy in those days. The 1950s also appeals to me.

Without question, I'd visit Petrograd in the decisive years of the Russian Revolution - say, from 1916 until 1923. It'd be dangerous, but what an atmosphere!

To influence the greatest social experiment and political upheaval in the history of all history - yeah, that'd be my choice.

I might even get to meet Vladimir Lenin himself.

The Cenozoic era which is what we are in now. Going back to the time of the dinosaurs would not be very smart because chances are you wouldn't last very long.
