Hi, today my Mercedes caught fire under the drivers side dash, destroying most of the drivers side area, entire dash, windshields any just a mess. I only has liability insurance and my warrenty is up. The fire came out of no where - I was in the car - the smoke started coming from the vents, it was really hard to breath but I tried to turn the car off. It did not turn off even when I took out the key. I got out of the car and popped the hood, I disconnected the battery to try to turn off the car. It continued running. I got back in the car and tried to move it out of gear to turn it off but I could not. The smoke became so overwhelming I had to get out of the car. Right after I got out the drivers side area engulfed with flames. The only noticible thing I can think of is over the last month a couple of strange electrical things happened - first my locks started locking and unlocking by themselves sometimes, then my lights did not turn off when I turned them off & my radio died

So you noticed electrical problems occurring and took no action to correct the problem and now are looking for someone to blame for your own negligence? Maybe you can get lucky if there was a recall notice out for whatever caused this problem.

I truly am sorry for your misfortune, but you have to be responsible for yourself and your stuff. Most people don't understand that if they can't afford to replace their car they should carry Comprehensive Insurance. Its much cheaper than buying a new ride.

first off your screwed. and its gonna cost a pretty good penny to get any Mercedes wiring problem fixed with or with out warranty. so be honest it sound like you Had a wire housing short that melted the wire lining and caused the fire and i am sure the fire damage is pretty bad to so not including the cost to fix other damages like hoses and computer circuits. most under the hood fires like that. that i know about normally end up in the scrap yard

Did you ever resolve this issue???????? The exact same thing happened to me yesterday. 2001 SLK320 smoke starting coming out of the vent. I pulled off the road and into a parking lot, turned the key off and the engine continued to run. In a matter of seconds the smoke turned to flames. Gutted the whole car.

Please re-post if you have any sort of suggestion or solution. Thank you
