Believe me.. tampons are a life saver! I was really nervous the first time but the first time i tried I was sooo comfortable I coudn't even feel it and I have been using them ever since. To make it slide in easier It's better for "it" to be lubricated, so I usually put a tampon in after a shower or just use water.. get what I mean? well anyways I also always just put a tiny bit of petroleum jelly on the tip of the tampon it's slides in easier and the petroleum jelly won't hurt you or anything, so good luck oh and there are also instuctions on the back and the kind I use are tampax pearl (no-slip grip and back up braid) woo hoo lol

No, there isn't any reason for you to find it really hard, but certain circumstances CAN make it a negative experience:
If you haven't started your period yet but have decided that you want to use tampons, you may find the actual action difficult (in the sense that you won't know all that much about your anatomy), regarding how the tampon needs to be angled or how deep to insert it, etc., but there's no guarantee that it will be painful. At twelve and as a virgin, I initially found it awkward and 'weird' to use a tampon but I became accustomed to it very quickly and I've been using them almost exclusively for the past eight years with no problems.
If you've already started your period and were trying tampons for the first time and found it difficult, it may be because you were doing it wrong. Inserting a tampon incorrectly it can be extremely uncomfortable or even outright painful and if you're experiencing a light flow there won't be a lot of moisture so there might be a good deal of drag as it's inserted, which can make it difficult and/ or uncomfortable to push.
Most women find that it's easiest to insert a tampon by pushing it straight back towards the base of her tailbone. Angling it any differently may push it into the walls of the vagina where it will probably bend or fold in a way that reduces its absorbing ability and may result in discomfort whilst sitting or walking. If you've tried using a tampon and it hurt like hell, you probably pushed it so far back it slammed into your cervix (one or two times of doing that and you'll learn to pay attention to how you insert it *lol*). Also, make sure to read the tampon box-- they DO actually come with instructions.
So, yes it can be painful. But whatever you might experience will be far from unbearable. The keywords here are 'awkward' and/ or 'difficult' for the first few times and within one period, you'll be able to tell whether tampons are going to be suitable for you or not.
One thing that I want to caution you on is this: using tampons as a virgin MAY partially or completely rupture your hymen. Tampons are designed not to compromise an intact hymen but it's still a very real risk and there's not much chance that you'll know when it happens because of the menstrual blood. This is what happened to me and if remaining 'intact' is important to you for any reason, you might want to stick with pads until you decide to become sexually active.
Good luck!

It depends.
But if you're trying to insert one, lie on the floor and put your feet up against a wall, or the bathroom door. Keep one leg on the door, and slowly move your other leg down to the ground, slowly moving it further from your other leg to the side. Make sure your legs are bent while doing this, and you should feel something 'opening'. This is where the tampon is inserted.
This helps if you also have a mirror stood up against the bathroom door so you can see what you're doing.

It can be, but if you follow the instructions it should be easy. Try using a tampon on a heavier flow day to help ease it in. This may help you get used to it the first few times.

No it is easy. The insert in the box tells you how.Just try to relax as tighting up your musles down there will make it harder to insert.
