There's always the possibility that broadening your mind to a variety of things will make you see things more ethically. At the same time there's plenty of people who've never had higher education and yet are far more morally balanced than some people who actually went to a college of some kind.

It all comes down to the kind of person you are.

Higher education tends to give someone a better ability to understand written rules, and more practice at thinking and acting logically.

Since ethics is a matter of following a particular set of rules (the code of ethics for whatever profession), a higher education would tend to make someone better able to understand the rules.

But anyone who is intelligent and literate can read and follow the rules -- education is not a requirement.

An education makes them understand what they are doing from a broader perspective, they understand the ramifications of their actions better, and their relationship to the courts and other institutions. The days of the cop right out of high school are over, most departments require at least a 2 year degree if not more than that.

My state requires a degree in sociology, psychology or criminal justice. While I think that ethics pertain to a persons' character, not their education, I do think that an education - especially in these fields - does help them to better understand some of the people and situations with which they are faced.

Ethics and honesty is both some thing you've or some thing you dont. It comes back to the way you've been raised and our surroundings you grew up in. possibly the more beneficial useful question should be ought to dad and mom be required to take ethics preparation for raising thier little ones.

Education has nothing to do with ethics I'm sorry to say. It is all about personal values, upbringing and moral character. Anyone who wants to counter that claim is welcome to try but all I have to say is 2 things. ENRON and TYCO. every one of those who where charged and convicted had taken several courses in business law and ethics. they all have thier masters degrees or higher and they where all a bunch of crooks.
