Is it passed on from generation to generation? Do people have a few bad experiences with one group of people and decide that they're all horrible? And is there a lot of racism and prejudice in other countries?

America is one of the LEAST racist countries in the world.

Try traveling to some other countries, and actually get to know some of the locals. People in other countries will often be far more casual about their racism than Americans will, because they haven't been infected with that "political correctness" nonsense. And racism goes far deeper than the "skin color" variety that we typically think of in the US.

A really good way to bring out racism in foreign locals? Try dating their daughters.

I never really experienced racism when I was a kid. That was because I was a loner, didn't pay much attention to other people, and the kids that I hung out were rejected by the common kids and thus didnt really hate cause they had low self esteem also) . It really seems that racism is predominant amongst the cool kids when you are young. However, it got bad when I grew older and moved during high school. I moved to a predominantly white area, and they would call me ugly and stupid, even though I was an honour student. I became self conscious of my skin colour. I made friends that were indian, and they helped to make me even more self conscious. Even the chinese minority would join in because I was like one of two black kids in the school. After I left that area for University, I was a bit hateful of other races for a while. That was until I learnt to pick friends properly, and be happy with myself. I like to hang out with handy cap people, because they don't really discriminate, and they are extreemly happy that you will be their friend, because they do not have many. A lot of them are jewels of our society.

Other countries are bad, its just that thye don't make any attempts to correct it. This is why I think the US and some part of britian are great. Because they are trying to change people for the better (with not much luck may I add).

If you think racism is prevalant in the US, you'll find it to be a way of life in the rest of the world.

In my experiences, the US is one of the most tolerant countries in the world.

As an East Indian, my experiences with racism in the US have been few and far between. However, my many experiences with overt racism in Europe and Asia during the relatively short time I spent there was really eye opening and made me appreciate the good old USA.

Prevalent in the US??? Travel, then come home and appreciate the LACK of prejudice here. Now for the other question, I grew up in lily white America. I saw my first black person in person at 13. I had NO prejudice at that time. Then I joined the service, traveled and found that blacks and to a lesser extent Mexicans all seemed to hate me. I am now a full blooded racist. I find it very difficult to not despise a race that hates me just for being white. Yes there are good blacks, I have good friends that are black. But know what, even those guys, when with other blacks, treat me like I am the cause of all their problems. friggin whiners cant take responsibility for their own problems so they pass the blame.

people will quote the catechism of the Catholic Church in this subject. And the Catechism is valuable. yet racism and prejudice are the two explicitly prohibited by one million) The Commandment that Thou Shalt no longer Kill (and racism and prejudice are varieties of character assassination) 2) the 2d of the perfect Commandments: Love your neighbor as your self and 3) the recent Commandment: Love one yet another as Jesus enjoyed us.

Racism exists in every country, not only America.

Most Americans right now are racist towards Mexicans because of the whole stupid immigration thing, and Muslims after 9/11. Not all Americans are racist or prejudice, I think it has to do with the way you were brought up. I am not racist because it's the way my family raised me.

It is all over the world and it will never change...The black hold a grudge about slavery when it comes to whites...and whites are pissed off because the blacks hold that grudge even though no body today has ever had slaves...Then everyone is pissed off at the Hispanics because everything has to be in spanish even though they live in america...and everyone has something against the asians for oddball reasons. This is true no matter where you go in this world

How is it prevalent in the US? You ship these black people to most european/asian countries and I guarantee you they will literally swim back to the US. They will think they traveled back in time when racism was tolerant in the US.

blacks don't realize how good they have it in the US, and that is why people don't understand why they are in the condition they are in. it just makes you think are these people really that dumb to catch up with everyone else? but then you bring africa into the equation, it kinda examples it all.
