How do you solve a rubik's cube??

Is there some sort of pattern? Please help. I really want to try to complete it. I can do one side!

The first layer should be fairly intuitive... just make sure that the edge and corner pieces match the colors on the middles of the other sides.

For the second layer, you only need two algorithms. Find the piece that you want to go in the side and line it up with it's color for example, if the red/blue piece is on the bottom, make sure that red is touching the red middle piece or blue is touching the blue middle piece. (whichever's possible.) (FRLDUM= Front Right Left Down Up Middle. any letter alone means turn that side clockwise. Any letter with ' after it means turn that side counter-clockwise.) To move it to the right apply D'R'DRDFD'F' To move it to the left apply DLD'L'D'F'DF.

the third layer is the hardest. you have to position and orient the edges then position and orient the corners.
Positioning the corners. They just have to be in the right SPOT for now. You can position all four at once by finding ONE edge piece that's already in the right spot. (just pick one and turn it so it's in the right spot usually...) If there are always two correct or none do this with one of the wrong ones to set it up. Once you have the one edge right turn the cube so that you're looking at the bottom. determine if the incorrect edges need to be rotated clockwise or counter clockwise. If they need to be rotated clockwise use the first algorithm to move the correct edge piece to the right in the second row, then put the correct piece back... and no, that's not just undoing what you already did. It rotates all the edge pieces except for the one you started with. Do the same thing, but to the left if you need the other three to rotate counter-clockwise.
Now to orient the edge pieces correctly, hold the cube so that the bottom is on the top then turn the cube to the right (bottom is now on the left.) Turn the cube untill the first incorrectly oriented piece is on the top left middle. (from the new position... not the normal...) Then do UM 4times. M means move the middle column up. this will correct the incorrectly oriented piece, but the rest of the cube will look pretty messed up. Don't worry. Just move the left side (bottom from the original position) until the next incorrectly oriented piece is in the up left middle position again. Do the same thing and the other two layers should be corrected.
Now for the corners. These aren't as complicated luckily... to position these, find one corner that's in the right SPOT again... unfortunately this time you can't just pick one and move it to the right spot because that'll mess up the edges. If there aren't any that are already correct, just do the same algorithm you're going to use to rotate the other three. To rotate the other three corners hold the cube so that the correct corner is in the up right front position and apply L'URU'LUR'U'. You may have to do this twice to correctly position them all (there is a way to rotate them the other way and only have to do an algorithm once, but that's one more algoritm you'd have to memorize and it requires putting it in a different corner... you can figure that out...)
Now to orient the corners. Position the first incorrectly oriented corner in the up left front corner. If that corner needs to be rotated clockwise to be oriented correctly apply LDDL'F'DDF and if it needs to be rotated counter clockwise apply F'DDLDDL'. To fix the next piece, turn the top so that that it's in the same spot as the last on you fixed. If there are three corners that all need to be rotated the same direction, do the last corner the wrong direction twice.

The official rubiks cube site has some great moves to help you solve this. It takes patience and practice and these moves are essential since just random fiddling and turning just makes you more frustrated. Check it out! Also heres were you can buy a little help booklet. Good luck!
