I am doing a 10 page research paper on Telecommunications: from telegraphs to cellphones. I've been to the library and couldn't find a good book based upon my topic. I've found a few websites don't know how to start my paper (introduction). So I am begging for anyone out there, to please help me this.

An introduction includes these things....
1) A line or two to grab the reader or audience in. This can be a rhetorical question. For example:
" Can you imagine your life without your cellphones? The people of 19.. didnt have to imagine that because ........ was the only type of communication."
This part get the reader interested or the audience interested in what you are going to talk about.

2) Introduce the main points of your outline clearly. For example:
" today I want to talk to you about how communication has evolved from the year 19.. to present day."
This part should let the reader or audience know exactly what you are going to talk about.

These two should be in order...first "grab" the audience and show them why your topic is interesting then tell them exactly what you will be talking about.
GOOD LUCK!

What hath Morse wrought? [aside to questioner, this alludes to Samuel Morse's "first" telegraph message 'what hath God wrought'] Little so seems to illustrate the concept of "gales of creative destruction" [aside to questioner this alludes to an idea and a phrase from economist Joseph Schumpeter] as does telecommunication. Whether it is the telephone over the telegraph, e-mails over telex and faxes, or cellphones over land lines the story seems to be one of new technologies showing their superiority over old. But in fact something more subtle is at work. These cases in fact show us the dynamic tension between the desires of large corporate enterprises to control the technologies and the desires of users to choose solutions to their own perceived problems and needs.

How's that for a start?

Talk about each individually (how they work and popularity etc) and what inventions took place before the cellphone was created. How do they compare/contrast. How far we have come from that time. What do you think will be created next, if anything.

To start a paper, start at the beginning. Give a little background about what your going to talk about...Maybe even a paragraph or two about how people communicated BEFORE all this modern communication.
