In my opinion, web. If you're good, the sky is the limit. What you can do with Flash is amazing. Check out http://www.gizmocall.com and see what they have done. VoIP entirely in Flash.

You might spend years in the wilderness in this field, but if you develop something completely unique (Amazon, eBay, PayPal, Skype, YouTube, MySpace) then you will soon have offers for millions for your company. Then just start again...

Would you rather it be developing applications for businesses.

I assume that you are asking with a view to taking up a career in IT. there is still a shortage of IT personnel in general although it is not an easy career to get established in. The most important criteria when deciding on your future really ought to be what YOU want to do, not what we think. by al means listen to advice but then think about which area of computing you like most. You must remember that you will spend many years in whichever field you choose, and there is nothing worse than being stuck in a job you don't like. Good luck for the future whatever you decide.
