There are actually some positive effects of watching too much TV. Check your library for a book called Everything Bad is Good For You by Steven Johnson. It may help you come up with an interesting topic/thesis.

Watching too much TV will stunt your social skills growth. You will believe that TV is reality and your view of reality itself will be skewed. Relationships are not perfect and cannot be resolved in a one hour prime time slot. You will not have the experience necessary to succeed in the workplace as you will not be as outgoing as you could be if you spent more time with people
