I just had my daughter 3 weeks ago. My water broke and I didnt dialate at all. I ended up being in horrible labor for 22 hours with patosin ( Im not sure how to spell it ) iv the entire time making the pain worse. And I had 3 failed epidurals. My question is, if my husband and I decide to later have another baby, what are the chances of my labor being as horrible as the first?

Luckily I had an awesome recovery. 1 week after I had her, I didnt even feel like I had a baby. I felt amazing. 2 weeks after I had her all my bleeding had stopped.

I'm sorry you had such a horrible first labor and delivery. Every woman is different and EVERY pregnancy is different! Please keep in mind that your next pregnancy could be completely opposite and the best labor/delivery you could ever imagine!

Try not to dwell, focus on your little one and letting your body heal. In time your mind will come to terms with what you went through and you'll be ready to try it again!

I work in L&D. It's Pitocin or Oxytocin. You should have asked for another anesthesiologist, he must have been horrible. I've never heard of three epidurals, only two when the first one didn't take. For the most part, you can count on your second labor being shorter than the first, but there are always exceptions. Just like there are exceptions to the first baby that's supposed to take 12-24 hrs, and a first-time mom delivers in less than three hours. Every woman's body is different, and every pregnancy is different. The pushing will be much easier the next time because the first baby did all the stretching for the second. Ask for a different anesthesiologist next time, never let the same one put in three epidurals!

Well since you KNOW that your labor is like this, you may opt for a C section or to have your labor induced from home using the Gel. Not to mention having great Love Making about the time you hit 38 wks, his sperm will help soften the cervix.
Odds are that your next labor will not be as hard due to having stretched your ligaments down there, but in order not to get stuck in a situation like this again it is important to plan very far ahead for labor/delivery.
You can get a C section with just asking, there does not need to be a medical emergency anymore. However the risks of recovery are higher, infection and so on. See information we have on our web...

My OB told me that usually your second baby is easier to give birth to--length of time is shorter and it goes a bit smoother. As far as the epidurals failing, I'm not sure if that improves the second time around. I'm a first time mom and surprisingly my labor was only 3 hours and 45 minutes--I didn't even have time for any pain medication!! Also every delivery will be different as I was told. Good luck and congrats on your new baby!!

They say the second is easier than the first most times. I feel so sorry for you. I was only in real labor for about 6 hours and my epidural only worked on one side but I got it so late it didn't really matter. My doctor told me that if I have another baby, I need to get to the hospital sooner because as fast as this one went, I might have my next one on the way there.

Each labor experience is different. I had a horrible first labor also. I was sick with flu-like symptoms, and I was in horrible pain. The labor lasted 40 hours, I kid you not!

Anyway, my second labor was fairly uneventful in comparison. I probably did have labor pains, but I don't remember them being particularly bad, and it went much faster.

Relax! If you want to try again, you just might have an easy labor this time. Most women have it a little easier the second time anyway.

Each labor is different. Each pregnancy is different. Unless it is something that has to do with your body, I'd say little chance. You can always ask your doctor when you go back in for the 6 week check up. He knows more about your situation than we do. Perhaps next time they could just do a C-section and avoid the whole labor part.

The same thing happened to me and I had very painful back labor. But my second delivery went like a breeze. Each one is different.
