Regular batteries are not designed to be recharged. In fact if you read the package it comes in, it will say things like "Don't dispose of it in fire, don't recharge it, don't solder directly to the battery" and such like. If you do, it will get hot, and if it doesn't start a fire it may leak some chemicals that will render your charger useless.
Simple answer, No, it won't.

Are we talking about regular household batteries or car batteries?
If you are asking about household alkiline batteries...never try to recharge them, you will overheat your charger, the batteries and probably start something on fire or at least make it very hot.
Car batteries are meant to recharge (they do everytime the car runs) and don't mind having a trickle charger hooked up to them once and a while.
Household rechargable batteries (usually nimh nickel metal hydride or li-ion lithium ion) are meant to be rechrged and will work well if recharged when the charge depletes.

if the battery isn't meant for re-charging, there might be a small indicator on the battery (red or green), if red, it wont even hold a re-charge so just get a new battery. You can also pry open the water caps and top off each cell compartment with water, then try re-charging it (that usually buys some additional battery life).

Yes but not as strong or as long. BUT it can/will blow up if overcharged. It overheats the regular battery (especially if it isn't a trickle down kind of charge -slow and low), eventually causing it to combust and spew BATTERY ACID all over everything. Not a good idea. Go to Sears and get a good battery, it's worth it.

An regular dry cell can be recharged to some extent. This is more like a regeneration and they cannot be recharged if flat. A special type of "dirty DC" charger is needed. These are not commercially available I believe.

depends on the quality of the battery. i used to do it but you must be acreful as they arent designed to be rechaged and can overheat causing a fire worst case or damage the charger best case. i charged mine for an hour or less. be careful and if the battery starts to overheat or the charger gets hot or smells like burning wires unhook it.

An alkaline battery will recharge. Not all the way and it is not safe. There can be damage to the equipment and/or bodily injury.

IT MAY WORK ONCE BUT I WOULDNT SUGGEST IT.THE BATTERY COULD OVERCHARGE AND BEGIN TO LEAK ACID.
