It seems that everyone else before me has covered possible name spellings, BUT I must say that i agree with Jill (the teacher) who said PLEASE think about the spelling.... What's wrong with Nicholas? Its a perfectly nice name! In fact, it's my favorite name for a boy... but I would NEVER even think about spelling it any other way than the way it's ALWAYS been spelled (Nicholas). Know why? Because that's the best spelling of any of the other possible spellings.... If it isn't broken, don't fix it!!!
The kid is gonna go through his wholllle life correcting people who spell his name wrong! Do you want him to have to do that??? I wouldn't.
p.s. I don't mean to offend you, just my opinion... sorry!

I am a teacher...and all I can say is PLEASE think about alternate spellings...it is not an easy thing for a kid to have a common name with an uncommon spelling..they spend their LIFE explaining that their name is Nicholas...but not really if it's nikolus or whatever...they then cant have a story,movie,cartoon character,toy, with characters that are the same name as them,
when young their friends wont understand why their friend spells their name "weird"
---this is just my opinion but coming from experiance with teaching hundreds of kids and seeing many of them go through this, and the parents who get mad at teachers when they spell their kids name wrong..maybe it isn't the teacher who spelled it wrong
