this is a multicultural country, we hear foreign tongues all day long, grammar is written, not spoken, its diction... most of us accept learnig our mother tongue isnt easy... does it make you less worthy...of course not. so long as you can communicate effectively and concisely then i can see it being no barrier to your employment.

I don't think an accent matters at all as long as the English is understandable. I did work experience in Munich and most the Germans I met spoke better English that some of the English people I know, obviously they had an accent but it was quite endearing really. :-) I know how hard it is to learn another language and to be perfectly honest I'm extremely impressed that they took the time and effort to learn it! While I was there I'm sure they had a good laugh over my German but all in all I think the language barrier was a very small one.

It depends on which accent! A lot of people don't like American accents (that is a fact, not an opinion). But European accents are regarded as charming and sexy. Especially Italian accents! So for personal relationships, accents are an asset, not a liability. As far as jobs go, an accent can disadvantage you if it is so strong that it makes you hard to understand. But most Europeans who speak English manage to make themselves understood very well. Practice makes perfect! I see from your profile that you are Latvian ... you won't have a problem speaking English well. You and your neighbours, the Poles, are excellent linguists!

English is wideley spoken on a global level so I do not think many people are concerned with the accent as long as they can understand what is being said.
I am from Canada and like the US we have a large immigrant population.
Language factors in if you are working in a job the requires good communicative skills both writtten and verbal.

The are a wonderful range of accents around the UK, a great variety of special expressions and phrases. A lot of that reflects our history and local culture.
We even have some completely separate languages - Cornish Welsh, Doric, Gaelic, I'm not sure about Geordie, but can you understand it.
Seriously we thrive in the variety of our land

Accent is largely irrelevant if the English is good (I'm speaking of English people) There are very few excuses for not speaking your own language properly.

I love hearing an accent. To me, it means you are intelligent and capable enough to have learnt another language (that is more than 90% of English people, they can hardly speak their own language correctly). We are all unique and I think even attempting to speak another language is a sign of consideration but speaking it correctly takes a lot of hard work.
Use your other language/s to your advantage. I speak 5 and it has helped me immensely.
Be confident. Best of luck!

Are you residing in India? perhaps you do no longer understand this, yet no longer all Indians talk Hindi. that's not the community language for many southern Indians. in case you purely talk Hindi, you won't be able to even talk with human beings out of your guy or woman u . s . a .. in case you learn English you may talk with fellow Indians and human beings international huge. English is the business enterprise language of the international.

sI was born in Cambridge, Maryland in 1941. I speak what most would call a ' southern drawl ', but, I can still understand the different dialects around the country. Understanding people that have made America their home, but still speak their language more than necessary, to me are just tourists that are visiting for a extra long time. Now we have 15 million of them who just refuse to be American, but enjoy our way of life. Now that sucks !! God Bless America !!

No accent does not matter but good grammer does because you always want to sound educated. In relationships it shouldn't matter whether the person u r feeling american or fiji. Just go by their personality and how they treat u.
