The best way to enhance your reading vocabulary is to find a reading level that is very comfortable and fun for you, easy and then just gradually step up the level. With kids, the more they read, the larger their vocabulary is, altho I think sometimes it is a gift, because I have a vocabulary of words and sometimes I don't even know what they mean but I dan use them right in the sentences. I am an auditory person. love music and sounds, so maybe I learn vocab in conversation ?

I found that the best way to learn vocabulary very quickly was through the book "vocabulary cartoons" (I no the title sounds elementary, but don't let it fool you). Each volume has about 300-350 words in it (there are 2 volumes of SAT vocab) and each word is accompanied by a picture to help you learn. I was even able to learn each word in less than 30 seconds each, while still being able to remember all the words even after 6 months of studying them. Because of these books, I was able to raise my reading score from 640 to 750 in almost no time. I HIGHLY recommend this book if you are in need of learning vocab for the SAT.

It really depends what kind of learner you are. If you learn well w/ pictures you might want to draw a picture next to each word in your book and go through them for 20 minutes a night or so before bed. My best advice is to not procratinate and to spread out the time b/c spending that 20 minutes a night for 2 months is the same as spending almost an entire day (20 hours) on it or your entire afternoon for an entire week. If you spread out your time it will also make it easier to learn it b/c you wont be dreading the studying b/c it takes so little time. I suggest just reading through them and their definitions multiple times for the first week or two and not even worrying to study. That way they will be in your mind already so studying will be easier. Im good at learning by flash cards and use a web site for that. Its at http://www.flashcardexchange.com. It easy to use once you get the hang of the keys. It already has a lot of the flash cards made by other users too so you won't have to waste time making them. It could help you w/ other subjects of the SATs too. I suggest you make an account on it. I did and I think its one of the best decisions ive made this year. (They don't send you spam mail)

As silly as this sounds, read a dictionary. Just go through the dictionary and every word you don't know, write down. Do under 10 pages a day. You will be surprised at how many words you already know or can figure out! Another thing, on the SATs and other tests (in the reading part), use your context clues. You can figure out what a word means just by looking at how it is used. Good Luck!

Hello, memorizing words out of context is a bit waste of time. You should read very very difficult texts in different area trying to grasp meaning, vocab will get to you at some time. You can try working with some language games as well, at least they are fun :)

well when ever you have free time just try reading them and memorizing them... then whle learning them use them in your everyday vocabulary.. and after awhile of like 30 words close the book relax and try to remember the words with peace of mind!

ps good luck on SAT

"Vocabulary can be improved by exposure to new language information. Exposure through writing is especially effective, for it offers a greater context by which new words may become understood."

Read advanced reading level books with a dictionary at your side so you can look up the new words. I don't have a recommendation just keep your mind at work.
