Can someone explain this to me?
the transmembrane voltage across the inner mitochondrial membrane can be visualized by the use of positively charged, lipid-soluble dyes that distribute themselves across membranes in proportion to the electric potential.

-----The higher the electric potential, the darker the color of the dye, or perhaps the lighter the color of the dye, depending on that particular dye. ---Jim
