My heart rate was always in the low 40s till about 2 years ago. I woke up in the middle of the night feeling nauseated and weak, with trouble breathing. Went to hospital and my heart rate was 29. They gave me something to speed my rate and it jumped to 33-36. After a couple days it went to 60 and has remained there ever since.
My rate doesn't seem to increase much when I work, so I have to be careful when doing strenuous work. If I start feeling tired I must stop and rest or I become nauseous and short of breath.
My heart doctor said the alternative is a pacemaker, which i didn't think much of.
Anyway, you might want to consult a heart doctor and have it checked. Not sure what they can do about it, but at least you will have a professional opinion.

A athletic person would have a lower heart rate, but 43 is exceptionally low and cause to be checked out by a cardio specialist. A average heart rate would be in low sixes or high fifthies

43 is very low unless you are a young, world class athlete. I am more concerned about your breathing although I do not understand what you mean about rhythmic breathing.
With a family history of heart disease you should be medically evaluated soon

Given your history, you should definitely see a specialist for evaluation.

If you are an athlete, that is what happens in great cardio-vascular training. If you are a 'couch potato" - you are in trouble with a possible heart block. Check with your physical trainer or doctor.
