I think they are both gay but are not attracted to one another. They are both bottom boys.
They have a sexless puppet like arrangement. I think Bert has an on again, off again with The Grouch.
Ernie likes Big Bird but Big Bird is straight.

Yes, gotta be. They sleep in the same type bed arrangement as all the old tv shows that have married couples in it. Siblings in older shows had their beds scattered across the room in diffrent areas of the room, not lined up together like those two. I think Bert did all the interior deocorating.
