Goes to show you that even the victim doesn't think there should be charges.

Actually Clueless-once again you are wrong. Hollweg's opinion IS RELEVANT. It depends on where the offense takes place as many places have laws where the victim has to be on board in order to press charges. Once again your postings have no merit. It WAS HOLLWEG'S DECISION and HE DID NOT WANT CHARGES PRESSED. FACT.

What Simon did either meets the legal definition of assault or it doesn't. If it IS, then what Hollweg himself says is irrelevant.
And MY Pet Peeve, is with the "The NHL Can police itself". Well, it doesn't. Each time there is a sucker pinch or stick-swinging incident, the offender gets a slap on the wrist. A lifetime ban from Hockey instead would clean up the sport and improve Hockey's image because it would make the next person THINK before doing something like this.

i think the suspension handed down will probally end simon's career and that will be good enough. i don't think the police should get involved, does that mean that every time 2 players drop the gloves they could be charged with assault? i think it is high time the commissioner stepped down out of that ivory tower and starts doing the job he is paid to do. i think for the most part players do police themselves, you have people in every walk of life that don't play by the rules it is not just contained to the nhl.unfortunately the bad press is about the only news you hear about the nhl(local, espn)look at the good things the players do(auction the pink sticks)the hospital work, the community work, every where ryan miller goes he is involved in some sort of children's hospital work, they say anson carter is very involved in the communities he has played in,so maybe the press should release some of the good the players do instead of the bad of few!!!!!

Forget what Hollweg did, he is stupid to not press charges. He makes so little as it is, forget the playoffs. Hollweg won't even do anything in the playoffs anyways. If you wind up, take a two-handed swing at someones neck/face region, you deserve to be put in jail, suspended for a whole season, or even be disallowed to play a game in the NHL ever again, that's an intent to injure, a major case of it. Hollweg is stupid if you ask me to not press charges, and they should try to press charges even if Hollweg said not to. Simon won't learn unless you take extreme measures, and 25 games doesn't cut it.

Goes to show what?
That doesn't mean what Simon did was acceptable.
It just means the police have no business in the NHL. The NHL can police it's own players.

Even Simon himself said there is no place in hockey for what he did.

More than anything I think this is an example of the old National Hockey League belief that the players can police themselves. Well lately, it hasn't been working. Perhaps it's time for a third party to step in.
