How can I say the following in French (an idiom would be great for the part between quotations.)
I decided that working in the field of languages "would take center stage."
Thanks.

Wolferine’s answer really gave me a good laugh. Thank you Wolferine!
The definition in both French and English of the word “idiom” was so funny, because first, it was only one of the definitions but unfortunately, not the right one, and second, this had nothing to do with your question.
You cannot blame people for trying to answer questions the best they can so keep it up everybody…

Anyway, that said, “to take center stage” is an idiom, as you know, in the sense of “an expression whose meaning is not predictable from the usual meanings of its constituent elements (like…kick the bucket…)”. I’m just saying that for Wolferine…

That said, I will now try to answer your question which is:
The French translation of the following sentence: “I decided that working in the field of languages would take center stage” which contains an idiom and you would like the translation to also contain an idiom for the expression “to take center stage” which means, anything that becomes the most important thing and is given first priority.

Your sentence could translate like that:
“J’ai décidé que travailler dans le domaine des langues deviendrait une priorité.”
But there is no idiom in that.

You could say, with an idiom:
Ma décision de travailler dans le domaine des langues me tient au coeur.
(= My decision to work in the field of languages is an important goal…with the expression “tenir au coeur”)

Ce qui me tient à coeur maintenant est de travailler dans le domaine des langues.
(= my important goal now is to work in the field of languages)

Me consacrer au domaine des langues…is also something you can use

I hope this helps…

word to word:
un idiome serait grand pour la partie entre les citations
but the idiom is:
"Un idiome est un ensemble des moyens d'expression d'une communauté, correspondant à un mode de pensée spécifique comportant des particularités propres à une langue."
it means:
An idiom is a whole expression means of a community, corresponding to a mode of specific thinking, comprising language's characteristics .
