this is the story i have gotten from several friends who are jehovah witnesses...larry graham (the bass player for sly and the family stone) is a witness and helped tommy convert...at tommy's conversion ceremony, larry presented him with a bible that had a crystal blue cover...tommy wrote and recorded "crystal blue persuasion" as his way of askin' 'can't we all get along?"...

"Look over yonder... the sun is arising..." In ancient Christian Apostolic churches the parishioners faced east as it was written in the old testament that if one faced east he would meet with God. In this case he references the sun or more likely the "son" . "When he looks down...on all his children...." is of course a reference to God. Peace harmony, love all the qualities that distinguish Christian theology. "Better get ready...gonna see the light" is a common theme referenced in the new testament and the book of revelations of the second coming in a future age of completion of mankind meeting with divinity. "Crystal blue persuasion" always ends each segment almost like a seal or and Amen. James was speaking of blue Shekhinah light which is old testament terminology meaning divine presence of God.
Sweet cherry wine was another song by the Shondells referencing communion or perhaps communion with God.
It is entirely possible that spirit can work through anyone even without their knowledge to communicate a greater good or change needed to the betterment of mankind.

Tommy James had a talent for recording songs that he and The Shondells were just jamming to...Hanky Panky.....Crimson And Clover.....I wouldn't be surprised if Crystal Blue Persuasion were the same....just a jam session.
