Why can I not see You Tube videos on my new monitor?

I have a new pc and a new flat screen monitor. Not purchased together. I've had a nightmare with sounds altogether, but can't hear or see vid clips. Ideas for a non-techie person? In plain language please!!

You may need to download & install the Flash Player plugin for your browser (nothing to do with the monitor...it's a software issue) :
