If a person is REALLY REALLY STUPID, it could take years to figure it out.

If you were aware of having had a premonition; then I think it would happen in a flash!
The idea of a premonition indicates awareness on the level of your thoughts; but long or gradual recognition seems to be the opposite meaning to me.
