And child support ends automatically in most states at 18 or 21.

sure if:
1) the parent drops dead
2) the child(ren) are adopted by a new spouse
3) when the child is done high school, but can continue for a few more years while the child attends college / trade school (most states do this).

todays courts do not allow a parent to just sign away their rights, unless there is someone willing to adopt the child (such as a new spouse).

why? because the state and federal government are TIRED of parents not paying for their children, so they passed stronger laws. everyone is tired of deadbeats.
