They do not have the right to fire you for going to a job interview. They do, however, have the right to fire you for any reason they feel is just.

They cannot fire you for looking for another job, soley based on that; HOWEVER, if you take off from work to do so, spend the time they are paying you looking for another job (i.e. updating your resume on monster), etc. Another thing that your manager can do is make your life a living hell in hopes that you leave, or even find another reason for why you should be fired, but legally based on just interviewing, by law, they cannot fire you.

Of course they can,you can be fired for not flushing the toilet.
As you grow older you will see how things work. There are no laws against firing someone. There are laws on the reasons for the termination but so many loopholes that allow people to be fired for most any reason. If company policy states you flush after every use and you forgot then you just violated company policy. Most certainly you could be fired for consorting with the competition. They could even bring suite against you if you reveal any legally guarded info. you have on your previous employer.

Yes, but why do you want to quit? Salary, benefits or working conditions? Talk to your manager for any possible increase or whatsoever. But don't be a quitter.
