Nationality is based on where you were born but ethnicity is based on culture, language, religion and so on, so that persons of different ethnicity can be of the same nationality.
Your race can be a part of your ethnicity but they are not the same. All the North American Indians can be considered one race but the Apaches may be ethnically different from the Cherokees.

Ethnicity is your genetic background (ex. a person that is of Indian ancestry), but nationality is the nation that they are from (ex. America)

Nationality refers to the culture and country you specifically grew up in (an American is an American whether he or she is black, white, hispanic, etc) while ethnicity would refer more to your inherited background (race, etc)

Nationality = lines on a map, where are you a citizen

Nationality means what country you were born in and ethnicity is what you inherit from your parents in terms of what country they were born in.

A country can have citizens belonging to different ethnic origins/races.

well my ethnicity is Egyptain but my nationality is American. my baba is Egyptian and my mother is American. and i was born here in the USA. just like my husband, he was born in Sudia Arabia, but is ethnicty is Egyptain as well. but both of his parents are Egyptian. he is full blooded Egyptain but nationality wise he is Sudia Arabian.
