I have rented two apartments. I have also rented two houses. I dislike renting altogether. My husband and I bought our own house last fall, and we finally feel like this is right for us.

Every time we had to get out the checkbook to pay the rent, I felt like we were throwing our money away. Our landlords were seldom seen, and we basically took care of all the minor repairs around the house/apartments ourselves. At almost all the rentals we were granted permission to paint and decorate, but the places never felt like "home" to us. Maybe it was psychological, but we knew they didn't belong to us.

We have been in our new home almost six months now, and since we've been here, we painted every room, replaced the flooring, insulated the garage, put in new light fixtures, etc. We really have not spent much more monthly on fix-ups and mortgage than our old rent. The bonus is - we get to keep all the money we are spending, because if we sell the house, it's ours!!

I would prefer an apartment flat. No stairs, no maintenance, 24 hour security and fire protection. No yard work, no snow removal. No major appliance repairs or replacement. Contrary to popular belief you can paint and "personalize" an apartment, you just must return it to the original condition when you leave. Management takes care of problem tenants, and you have the ability to move at the end of your lease, or buy out your lease (usually 2 or 3 months rent). Most apartment complexes have swimming pools (without the maintenance) and utilities are less....I live in a house though, my wife prefers it, we take care of the 1/2 acre of grass, plants, snow removal, pool maintenance, etc. I would move into an apartment in a heartbeat. Also contrary to popular belief, owning a home does not give you more privacy (unless you have a few acres in the country). There are more children and teenagers in houses, and when the music goes up, or the parties get loud you can't call management. The police will do nothing unless it's past midnight.

I love apartments. The price is reasonable and you can change your mind easily every six months to a year. Also, if you have a major maintenance issue, you have twenty four hour service. Who wants to pay for an emergency plumber at two in the morning. Add to that, no lawn mowing or gardening and a million opportunities to meet new people, I think it's a great deal.

at the same time as i replaced into youthful, an homestead, a lot less upkeep. Now i'm exceedingly a lot 40, i respect living in a house. I actually have a attractive backyard with dozens of timber. i visit in undemanding words listen my neighbor at the same time as they're having a get at the same time (instead of every time they walk by the floor or turn on the television). i'd bypass back to the homestead after I become older.

House! You don't have to deal with so much noise! I can sing as loud as I want and dance LOL, and also have fun! And you can paint, and move furniture and it's bigger! Also it's a great place for a family, so I'm think when I get older I'll live in a house

I prefer to live in my own house. I can decorate it and change wall colors without asking anyone. One thing to consider is maintenance, which in your own home is your responsibility. I am handy enough to take care of most of my homes maintenance needs.

A house, more privacy since the neighbors are farther away.
