Yes, it will leak. Some people seal the interior of pots by spraying them with pruning spray. This is a black spray that is designed to cover the cuts on a tree after pruning it. You can get it a Home Depot in the garden department.

Without knowing your definition of "polished" or the actual properties of the "polish'.... Unless it's glazed/fired,,,as in ceramic, it's very likely that it's porous and absorbent, meaning that it will also "leak"

Without knowing the purpose of the container, does it matter?

Obviously if it's a vase on a piece of wood furniture it matters.
