it's not a bluff test if you want to go to a good college. but if you just want to attend the local community college or bad state school, it's definitely blow off test.

You should prepare and take them seriously. In some states, you can even get partial scholarships by reaching certain scores! They are a very serious test that can affect your future! Because some schools and states are notoriously easier than others and therefore easier to get good grades, it is the only benchmark test for the entire country!

Take practice tests and time yourself. This will help familiarize yourself with the test and the directions so that you won't waste any time figuring out some directions on the test day. This will also allow you to be calm so that you don't panic too much on the test day. Also, know your weaknesses and work on them.
Eat breakfast! Test day is stressful enough without a grumbling stomach distracting you.

I took the SAT before being accepted to college. (It was the old version w/ the 1600pt scale though) My school offered an class to help expand your vocabulary. It helped me to know origins of words and how to make educated decisions on the SAT. I did not study for the SAT and still received a good score.

It is a very important test! I got 2 perfect scores in math and reading, but my writing score was only 720, for a total of 2320. I only read this SAT guide, and that is how I got such high scores:

I recommend this guide to anyone seeking to get a higher score to get into a first choice college.

any good guide book can teach you the stuff you need to know...try the one by Princeton Review..I studied from it and I managed a 2040 on the first sitting....which is not extraordinary but it'll get me where I want to go....potentially your score on the SAT can make or break your career...it is a very important test! take it seriously but do not let it stress you out....because that'll have an adverse effect...

Most schools know that the SAT is better at test how well you take tests than how smart you are, but they don't have anything better to judge your academic achievment so it's fairly important.

I don't think you should worry about any test. That causes test anxiety and that causes you to do worse on the test than if you went in with the attitude of "this is no big deal".

It carries some weight, but don't panic over it. Spend your time studying in areas where you feel you are weak. Don't study up on things you can already do well or fairly well.
Good luck!
