I know you girls cant answer my question totally.....but maybe just some advice would be nice. Im 16 weeks pregnant and went to the clinic yesterday b/c Im feeling horrible. The dr. was a clown, he used the stethescope through a bulky sweater and my winter coat. He barely even looked at me and said b/c Im pregnant theres nothing I can take. He said if it gets worse come back. It was really busy so I kind of got rushed out the door. My head is achey my whole body hurts and my nose is burning when I blow it or even breath. My ears and throat are so itchy and sore. Ive been taking tylenol but its not really helping, anything else I can take?? I dont want to take cough meds b/c if its a sinus thing than it probably wont help anyways.....Thanks.

I have the same problem only I have morning sickness on top of it. I take Tylenol, my Dr. says its okay. And I drink some herbal tea. A little caffeine wont hurt my doctor says it could even help relieve a headache.
Good luck

As a long suffering sinus person, I'd say its a combination of sinus and possibly allergy. One thing you can take that's safe, my OBGYN recommended it to me, is Sudafed. It will work on it. What happens is when the sinuses get so full, they back up into the ears, then the ears ache, itch or hurt. The throat gets sore from all the mucous draining. Since there's no cough, no chest congestion I'm not sure it's a cold. I'd do the Sudafed first, see if it works then if not, try an allergy/sinus combo. They are safe to take as long as you aren't addicted to them. My OBGYN told me in moderation I could continue to take these through my pregnancy if needed. I suffered with colds, sinus, pneumonia with my 3 pregnancies, and have take many of the over the counter meds with doctors permission. Hang in there.

A drug-free solution is easy and feels great. Plus since you're pregnant, you could have pregnancy induced rhinitis. You STILL need relief!

Try a saline nasal RINSE (not a spray) A full warm water saline rinse goes in one nostril and out the other. It draws out all the gunk and shrinks the tissue (like swimming in the ocean). I've been doing it at work too.

The buffered salt doesn't 'sting' as much as plain salt water. You can use a new method like Nasopure, or the vintage, Netipot. The special bottle and salt is about $20.

You can do this a often as you like with no bad side effects.

You don’t need a prescription for this therapy. So if you live in a state like mine, they’ve pretty much “outlawed” sudafed medicine. Drug-free is really the way to go on a frequent-use basis. (I put in a link for “what” and “how” – there’s also some good info on wiki)

I had continuous Sinus problems throughout both my pregnancies! Your immunity levels are lower when you're pregnant. It's hard to tell if you have a virus or a sinus infection, but if it doesn't go away in another few days, I would insist on them giving you something. There are plenty of meds you can take safely - as long as they are Class B drugs and not C, they are safe during pregnancies. Many antibiotics fit in this category. BTW...Sudafed is a great med to take as a decongestant and is safe during pregnancy.

Good luck to you!!

I just had my son almost four weeks ago, but I had the same problem when I was pregnant. My OBGYN told me that cough drops are o.k. to take as long as there is no alcohol in them.
