A planar feature is any feature of the rock that seems to adhere to a particular plane. For example, if you were looking at a book, then the pages could be considered planar features of that book as they are all orientated in the same plane. In rocks, planar features can include cleavage (i.e. a tendency for the rock to split in one plane), bedding planes (i.e. the orientation of the different beds of rock), joints, faults, dikes, fissures, fractures, veins, foliation, schistosity, fold axial planes, and unconformities.
