, in the fifth and fourth centuries BC and perhaps earlier, a rhapsode was a professional performer of poetry, especially of epic poetry (notably the epics attributed to Homer) but also the wisdom and catalogue poetry of Hesiod and the satires of Archilochus and others. Plato's dialogue Ion, in which Socrates confronts a star rhapsode, remains our richest source of information on these artists. Often, rhapsodes are depicted in Greek art, wearing their signature cloak and carrying a staff. This equipment is also characteristic of travellers in general, implying that rhapsodes were itinerant performers, moving from town to town.

Rhapsody: An epic poem adapted for recitation.
There is a Gershwin song: Rhapsody in blue.
"Rhapsody in Blue is a musical composition by George Gershwin for solo piano and jazz band written in 1924, which combines elements of classical music with jazz-influenced effects. The composition was orchestrated by Ferde Grofé three times, in 1924, in 1926, and finally in 1942. The piece received its première in a concert entitled An Experiment in Modern Music, which was held on 12 February 1924, in Aeolian Hall, New York, by Paul Whiteman and his band with Gershwin playing the piano. In the version for piano and symphony orchestra made by Ferde Grofé in 1942, it has become one of the most popular American concert works."

RhapsodE is the personification of a tight verbal flow over the perfect beat flavored with soulful melodies..."[a] positive message that she delivers in a clear, smooth, quenching way. Complete water is her voice."
RHAPSODE lives up to her name by fusing poetry, singing, rhythm and emotion-filled words sometimes set to music, and effortlessly hands them over to the audience to do what they will. Nominated for a Minnesota Music Award in 2003, RHAPSODE chose the road less traveled, left poetic cadence behind and ventured out for more musical, jazz-like melodies to create the lines of her poetry. A writer and performer since youth, RHAPSODE's gravitation to the stage was yet another opportunity to create a gifted marriage between her love of music and the stage with her poetry.

Look to a figure of a rhapsode in:

"...a rhapsode stands on a platform and performs before a listener. The man behind him with a forked stick may be a judge. The rhapsode holds in his left hand a staff (rhabdos) that is a sign of his profession. "

If you get Rhapsody down tight you'll be okay because it isn't all that complicated. A Rhapsodist was a kind of Minstrel or court poet of ancient Greece. A Rhapsodist literally means "stitching together" the works of many poets. No one knows if the Odyssey was written by a single poet named Homer or if the Odyssey was episodes written by several poets and put together as a Rhapsody by a Rhapsodist named Homer.
