Not at all! If you are considering starting a family in the next couple months then go right ahead. Do keep in mind that if you are considering this route that the best thing for you to do for yourself and your future child is to visit your doctor. They can help you decide what prenatal vitamins are best for you (some women may be more anemic then others, vegetarians need more B vitamins, etc.). The doctor can also help you figure out your ovulation cycle, address any underlying health issues that might be of concern to a future mama, and answer any questions you might have.
If you want to take prenatals just to grow out your hair and nails forget about about it! Your best pill for this would be a bit of extra calcium everyday. If you do take a calcuim supplement (which every woman should) make sure it is one with vitamin D in it. The body will only absorb the calcium with vitamin D present. Don't take more than one to two pills a day either since the body can only absorb so much calcium in one day.

I had a former co-worker whom took prenatal vitamins to keep her weight up. She was bone thin all the time and she used the vitamins to maintain her body weight. She wasn't pregnant the entire 2 yrs that I worked with her. She mentioned nothing of side effects either. I did notice that she was energetic and couldn't be still, but that could be a different story all together (ha ha).

yes they help hair and nails grow. they are good if you are trying to conceive and getting your body into shape for pregnancy, while you are pregnant, and afterwards if you are nursing. however, if none of these apply to you, you may want to consider a different type of vitamin... prenatals are specifically geared towards a woman who is having or has just had a child.

Its ok to take them 6 months post partum, but if it has been any longer, you wouldnt want to get too much of a certain vitamin because it can be deadly. You take them for an extra person inside of you, cause you lose so much creating life. You might wanna stick to regular vitamins from GNC.
