Duh? When people say they are on the top of the world they don't mean physically - it means they feel great, unfettered, unsquashed, nothing holding them down - presumably in this case because of "the love that I've found ever since you've been around".

I think this is a great song,and Karen Carpenter was one of the greatest vocalists of all time. They werent on drugs! Merely making music. As for the inbreeding comment, thats really bad taste.

Karen Carpenter was less of a 'deep thought' kinda musician and more of a 'make a buck' kinda girl. That explains the recording.
John Bettis, on the other hand, was just short. That may explain the lyrics.
