Unfortunately we have to demand that our government regulate the co2 levels from the big bad corporations (you know the same ones that produce cyanide and call it mustard).
This though is not impossible; however the U.S will not be a world leader in this process, we will have to be the reluctant followers instead (the nu world leaders will represent this global consciousness that we lack).
In order to do this on a "larger scale" it will take more cooperation from the people within our "democracy."
Unfortunately and to my dismay many people like giving huge corporations power to pollute our air and control our lives for the bottom line, because they think it represents free enterprise when it really looks more like "corporate communism" look at how more and more things are owned by fewer and fewer individual entities. Scary.
By looking at some of the other responses you got it doesn't look like we are going to get too far too soon unless these anti-global warming folks wake up one day and decide they no longer want to be controlled by the corporations that own them and hopefully it won't be too late.

Global Warming is a THEORY... not fact. If you actually look into the research on this subject, you'll find Mr. Gore's recent movie was innacurate in many ways.. (For instance, some of the figures he stated with regard to the ice caps was actually stated in reverse of the true numbers.) and that the information presented was done so in a way that encourages people to get all upset about the environment.... When, in reality, the climate changes we've seen have been COMPLETELY within the normal range of recorded earth-science cycles.... The earth is not static.. it is dynamic... No one is able to show that the current changes in climate, if any are outside the normal range of activity.
On the Academy Awards show somebody thanked Al Bore for taking up this fight 30 years ago... That is a farce. Nobody was talking about Global Warming in 1976... they were trying to scare is with talk of another ice age!!
Global Warming as a theory was presented at some point in the 80's... and the environmental lobby saw an opportunity to scare the crap out of people. Since we'd enacted legislation to control pollution and natural habitats, folks were feeling a little less inclined to keep pouring donations into the environmental lobby... and they had to do something to keep their funding stream flowing. So they put forth Global Warming as fact and have since manipulated data and only looked at scientific evidence that supports their theory... and voila, they are probably the best funded lobby group in Washington!

Cool down the sun would be a start. Since Mars' polar caps are melting due to increased solar activity it would seem there is a correlation.
Now if you want to do things that would make yourself feel better, reduce your dependence on foreign oil. That would lower CO2 emissions(which the knee jerk global warming types point to as the cause) and put money back in your pocket. Of course to reduce your usage you not only need to buy less gas and oil but cut down on buying or using plastics and other petroleum products.

Bringing the US economy to a complete halt would stop our human contribution to global warming, but if the warming is due mainly to to the sun's heating up, as the melting of the Martian icecaps suggests, it wouldn't stop global warming.

There is nothing you can do on a personal level to stop climate change. There is nothing the nation or nations of the world can do to stop global climate change. Our climate is determined by the sun and other natural events. Ask yourself this question. What stopped the last ice age? No one has that answer, but I do know it wasn;t Fred Flintstone driving his Tahoe

The only way it could be stopped is to get all inventors that have invented a force field and have them experiment with controlling the amount of heat going throught them. If thats possible then we have a chance to stop our planet from heating up and destroy all life as we know it.

WHAT? GLOBAL WARMING IS COMING?
Now what am I supposed to do with all these parkas and snowshoes I stocked up on when these same scientists were absolutely convinced thirty years ago that we were causing global cooling?

Nothing. "Global Warming is a myth", or have Al Gore keep his mouth shut and the threat is gone from his hot air, or keep our refrigerator doors open. You pick.
