You need to advertise in the LA area. The chances that someone interested in this will see your request here are mighty slim.

Some areas are better, some worse. But I am really hesitant to smear one particular area, because these things change constantly. If you are of a certain ethnicity, you might do fine in an area that would be problematic for someone else. Generally, the area known and South Central has higher crime, and there are other high crime pockets. You can consult crime maps put out by the Los Angeles Police Department, which I think I would do if I were contemplating moving here. I would suggest before committing to a lease that you rent on a month-to-month basis for a while so you can evaluate your area. Ask people at your job, and drive around different areas. Try to live near your work, as transportation is scanty and commute times are long (and gas so costly). It's expensive, crowded, and often pretentious to live on the West Side or at the beach, so unless you have a lot of money, look inland in areas such as downtown, Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena, or Alhambra, I suggest. There are very nice LA City neighborhoods, too, and some of them rather artsy, such as Los Feliz, Echo Park and Silverlake, Atwater Village, Eagle Rock, Larchmont, Beachwood Canyon, and all through the Hollywood Hills. Please remember that Los Angeles is HUGE, and although there is crime, and, yes, gangs, it is like any large city, and also wonderful.
