you place your right hand on the strings near around 1st fret or 3rd, but you dont press the strings, only like slightly touch them, no harmonics and not barring. just touching the strings, then with your left hand you play normaly.. is there a name for this?

You tap the notes by your left hand and you put your right hand up there for two reasons: some do it to TUNE UP and some do it to MUTE the strings from noise u make from tapping...thats it

it's sometimes called - muting, or damping.

the sounds that come out - muted sound, no chord or anything associated with it, just the strumming pattern.

most of the time, guitarist do this to emphasize the rhythm of the song he's playing.

Tapping, whenever you pproduce the sound by hitting (hammering) a string with your finger(s), it's tapping.
