I always recommend half.com for books. Real classics like the Aeneid can be bought for a few dollars there.

One of the best and cheapest places to buy classic books is Goodwill stores or ARC or any thrift shop. A person can find classics in very fine condition for about a $1 or less. That is how I've stocked my own personal library and didn't have to pay any shipping. Ebay and other .com sites charge according to current prices and scarcity of editions in print.

You can find them in almost any bookstore such as Barnes & Noble or Borders, which also have websites that you can order books from.
Barnes & Noble also offers used books for sale from other sellers (usually small used book stores) on their website. Many of these books are new or in like-new condition and are priced very low.
Borders is teamed with Amazon.com, where you can also find many great deals on "used" books.
There have been several times when I bought very nice "used" books, online, from either Barnes & Noble or Amazon and, even with shipping, the cost was cheaper than buying it in a store.
Ebay is another great place to find books. There may be a used book store near you. If they don't have a book you're looking for, they can usually order it for you.
Also check biblio.com, they have TONS of books listed and you can have them e-mail you when the book you want becomes available.

Barnes and Noble has their printed line of the classic books... they are nice and quite reasonably priced.

Well, Borders has their own line of supposed "Classics" that they print and bind themselves in order to make them affordable to college students. Those only run a few bucks.
