Fire US attorneys for doing their jobs ethically.

2007-03-17 07:44:08 · answer #1 · answered by Peter Pumpkin Eater 5 · 3 4

He lied to Congress. He fired federal investigators because they refused to use their office(s) for political reasons.

The actual list of people to be fired was assembled by none other than Harriet Miers.

This is not like Clinton's firings in 1993. Clinton just got into office and he fired all of them at once to start with new appointees. He did not selectively fire this one or that one because he did not like what they were working on.

Shared information from a closed Grand-jury proceeding with Non dept of Justice people. ie GOP affiliates.

Go big Red Go

The hiring and firring of these US attorneys seems to be fairly traditional. And not illegal. Nixon was the first to fire all.

What was wrong was the conspiring needed to build a plausible case against them. And then the cover up.

Potentially one of two things.

Either he knowingly participated in the firing of US Attorneys (senior federal prosecutors) based on whether those individuals were pursuing the correct political agenda for the Bush regime. In other words, he violated the canons of ethics of his profession by holding political concerns as more important than the integrity of the office and the duty of professionalism that attorneys are required to uphold.

Or, if you believe the claims he made during a press conference, he didn't know that eight of his senior US Attorneys had been fired until well after the fact.

So, either he acted unethically in violation of the rules of his office and his profession, or he was incompetent by being completely out of the loop of what his chief of staff was doing.

Either of those are sufficient grounds to be removed as AG.
Whether he actually did either of those is unknown. That's why hearings are being held. To determine what actually happened.

He placed loyalty to GW Bush above loyalty to the Constitution, and allowed the purging of US Prosecutors who were deemed not to be "loyal Bushies".

Those who indicted Republicans and those who didn't indict democrats were the ones to go.....

That's not the way our democratic Republic wants its Justice System to operate.

He lied to congressmen (not under oath)

Bush can fire whoever he wants in the Justice Dept. But Gonzo said specifically that they were NOT fired for politics but rather for performance. Then all the emails and docs came out showing that their performance was fine and it WAS politics.

Just being a Republican will make you a target for the democrats and the drive by media to commit character assassinations. All allegations and no evidence.
