For people who think Americans are dumb.. Why is it that such a dumb country surpasses your country?

Yeah, most Americans I've met are pretty dumb. Economic skill has nothing to do with intelligence in general.

Of course it depends on what you mean by "dumb". By "dumb", I mean uninformed about global events and essentially unable to comment coherently about basic topics. It's troubling when I can speak with a 10 year old German child about her views on the United Nations security resolutions, and I can't get a response from a 30 year old American.

I acknowledge that it's quite a limited sample size, but it supports my point. Additionally, there are dumb people in every country, not just the US. A lot of it has to do with the education system and the quality of public schools. Most American children (and adults) seem much more interested in watching "Dancing with the Stars" than a news program.

Overall I'd say that a person can be smart; people are stupid.

Americans, in general, aren't dumb. Americans are some of the most highly educated people of the world. (notice I didn't say THE most). However, you, on the other hand, are quite the stupid twit. Not only are you a stupid twit but you are being quite rude to the rest of the world, not to mention shallow. Those who make uneducated comments on the "dumbness" of Americans are just as "dumb" as you are to accept such comments as coming from educated people. You must understand that generalized statements can come from people who are uneducated, jealous, small minded or just angry and should only be taken at "face value". Don't fall for it and start on a rampage.

I read an article recently that asked that same question. It said: because of America's abundance of resources mixed with endless chances for re-education or further education. We can be uneducated, but still very technically skilled and successful.

For instance, I never graduated high school. But I can still go through a community college, a trade school, job corps, or any other avenue available to me to pursue a career. I may get a sixth or even seventh chance.

In some places equally as developed, you pretty much have one or two shots. In, say, Germany, I would be educated as my skills at age ELEVEN dictated.

Because your ancestors were smart? It's a little bit like the British class of lords. The first ones were smart, or brave, (unless they benefitted form corruption). The members of that class today can sometimes be kind of dumb, and can actually be dumb enough to think they belong ot that class because they are inherently superior!
So you Americans, some of you are smart, some of you are dumb, like any other country. But the fact that you are the richest country doesn't mean you are smart. Don't take the credit for what generations before you did.
