I was on anti-depressants and birth control at the same time and both of the medications were still effective, however, it's difficult to say for you because of your liver disorder and whatnot. If you don't want to go on them both at the same time, you might need to decide what's more important right now, the birth control or the anti-depressant. But, if you talk to your doctor, he or she might have a way for you to have both without screwing up your body.

I don't know of any interactions between anti-depressants and birth control pills. If your doctor and your psychiatrist are fully aware of your psych meds and your birth control pills, I wouldn't worry. Just to be safe you could call your local pharmacy, they may be able to tell you more about any possible interactions. Obviously birth control pills will "mess with your hormones", that is their job - but today's progestin-only pills have a very low-dose of only one hormone. I would advise you to try it and keep an open mind.

I take the pill and anti depressants and I have never had a problem and I have been taking both for 5 years.

i've tried different types of pill and was on the progesterone only pill for a few years - no periods no mood swings, great...but it can affect your sex drive so be careful!
It was weird not having periods at first, because you worry that you might be pregnant, but my doctor said to use some of the money i saved from not having a period towards buying the occassional test to put my mind at rest.

Well if you do stop you period that will mess with your hormones but the anti-depressant may help to balance you out

speak to your doctor, I was on the pill and it made me mean and "witchy" all the time. I have been using condoms for 7 years and no babies! So you have to do what is best for you.
Just to add I was on the pill when I got pregent with my son (7 years ago, so the pill is no guarantee)

Good Luck

the mini pill should not affect your anti depressants and they may not stop the monthly cycle. I was on the mini pill for approx 10 years and had no side effects what so ever and no monthly cycle hooray

The best thing to do is consult your doctor, and maybe mention the depo-provera injection. it lasts 12 weeks and it might suit you better
